Tragedy struck at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Orumba North LGA, Anambra State on Sunday night, July 27, 2026, after a multi-storey hostel building caved in with students believed to be trapped inside.
The incident happened late at night while occupants were in the building.
According to eyewitnesses, a loud rumbling sound was heard moments before the structure came crashing down, throwing the campus into panic.
As news spread, a large crowd of residents and fellow students gathered at the scene and immediately began digging through the rubble to pull out victims before emergency teams arrived.
As of press time, rescue operations are still ongoing. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of students trapped or injured as they work to evacuate those affected and assess the damage.
