THE Chairman of Enugu state Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty Igwe Sir Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu (Ogadagidi of Edem Ani Ogwugwu Ancient Kingdom, in Nsukka Local Government Area), has praised Enugu state Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for providing adequate security for lives and property in the state, saying Enugu remains the safest state in the country.
Igwe Asadu, therefore, called on local and foreign investors to take advantage of the prevailing peace in Enugu, to invest in the state, assuring prospective investors of protection and quick return on investments.
He said the establishment of a Command and Control Centre by the Mbah-led administration has enhanced real-time monitoring and intelligence gathering across the 17 local government areas of the state.
“We’re proud of Governor Mbah’s good works since he was sworn-in on May 29, 2023. He is an action man who doesn’t talk too much. His good works are verifiable. And talking about security, he is working in close collaboration with security agencies to protect lives and property in Enugu state.
Indeed, Enugu is the safest state in the country.
“Governor Mbah loves Enugu people, and we owe him a duty to reciprocate his love,” the Monarch said in an exclusive interview with SummitNews.
Igwe Asadu who recently returned to the state from Abuja, where he and some other traditional rulers held discussions with Senator Simeon Lalong, member representing Plateau South, in the upper legislative Chamber, on how to advance the bill seeking for provision of roles for traditional rulers in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), urged Nigerians to support the passage of the bill by the two Chambers of the National Assembly.
Recall that the bill on provision of roles for traditional rulers in the constitution, was sponsored by Senator Lalong, former governor of Plateau state.
“In fairness to the traditional rulers, they are the first point of call in every community, so they need to be carried along. We know that politicians see us from a different perspective, so we need to find a way to work together with them to get the bill passed into law’” he said.
According to him, some of the highlights in the bill include constitutional recognition of traditional rulers as the chief security officers of their respective communities, as well as custodians of their culture and tradition.
Furthermore, the bill proposes for eight percent allocation from the federation account to the traditional institution.
While, defending the creation of more autonomous communities in some states of the federation, and consequent emergence of more traditional rulers, he advised politicians to allow the people to choose their traditional rulers, instead of imposing them on the people, saying doing so can ignite crisis in such communities.
