ESCET Admits Over 400 Students, Urges ThemTo Embrace Discipline, Pursue Excellence With Diligence- From Our Correspondent


 

THE Provost, Enugu State College of Education (Technical), Dr. Stella Chinweudo Ekwueme, has called on newly admitted students of the institution to embrace discipline, integrity and responsibility as they begin their academic journey.

Dr. Ekwueme made the call during the College’s matriculation ceremony held last Friday where over 400 students were formally admitted into the NCE, PDE and Degree programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.

She urged the students to be collaborative, curious, courageous, calculative, calm, and innovative, stressing that these qualities are essential for achieving academic success.

Dr. Ekwueme further disclosed that with the unwavering support of the governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the College has successfully secured full accreditation for it’s NCE, PDE and Degree programmes.

She assured the students that ESCET is well equipped with modern infrastructure that promote a conducive learning environment for the students.

Delivering his address, the Vice Chancellor, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya who was represented by the Dean, Faculty of Law, Prof. Festus O. Ukwueze, congratulated the newly admitted students especially those admitted into the degree programme.

He advised them to strictly adhere to all the rules and regulations guiding the institution, noting that award of degree is reserved to only those who are found worthy both in character and in learning.

He warned the students against involvement in any cult activities and other social vice that could jeopardize their academic progress.

He further commended the Management of ESCET and the Faculty of Education, UNN for their collaboration in sustaining the degree programme.

He also praised Governor Mbah for his developmental strides in the State especially in the education sector.

The Chairman, ESCET Governing Council, Hon. Barr. Nwabueze Ugwu, while presenting his speech lauded the Enugu State Governor for his education initiatives, particularly the establishment of Smart Schools across all 260 political wards in the state.

He expressed optimism that significant number of the teachers for the Green Smart Schools would be drawn from ESCET core of graduates.

Barr. Ugwu further praised Governor Mbah for his foresight in according education its rightful place amongst the activities of government.

He said the governor demonstrates this by continuously giving education preference in the annual budget of the state, stressing that the governor’s commitment in ensuring that education gets its enviable position was further demonstrated by the governor when he gave education 33% in the budget for this year – a percentage he stressed is higher than the United Nations’ recommended figure, and also highest in the country.

Ugwu urged the students to remain focused in their studies and contribute meaningfully to societal development.

He further encouraged them to support the governor’s efforts in repositioning the school into a world class technical institution by voting for him in the next governorship election so that he would complete the good work which he has started.

The ceremony featured the administering of oath of allegiance to the newly admitted students by the Registrar, Mr. Patrick Aneke, goodwill messages from the representative of the Hon. Commissioner for Education and heads of sister institutions, exhibition of ESCET products, and cultural performances by the students.
